Here we go – goodbye summer and hello fall. Kind of. With temps swinging from 50’s to 80’s here it’s hard to know how to dress, but one thing is true during this time of year: a transitional sweater is key – especially in stripes! I’ve been seeing tons of brands pushing out striped sweaters for this fall and being a stripes LOVER, I had to jump on this “trend” (although to me, stripes are always a classic). I’ve paired one from Rag & Bone here with both cute cut offs and a floral skirt and tank– both which are great for this season.

And here it’s paired with a floral skirt, simple tank and a great pair of (shockingly) comfy denim espadrilles. Pop the sweater on when it gets chilly and it looks great too!

If you’ve read Erin’s second book, Elements of Family Style – and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?! – you know that each chapter showcases different areas of the home. While it’s great to be able to pick a room and see so many different examples of beautiful design, we realized that it’s difficult to see the full picture on some of these projects where Erin designed multiple rooms in the home. SO, today I’m giving you a tour of one of our favorite projects from the book, along with a few items you can buy now to cozy up your own space.

Now for the tour! Starting in the family room:

This airy family room opens up to the breakfast nook, butler’s pantry and kitchen:

Erin also designed the living room, which is formal yet warm and beautifully layered:

I like looking at runway shows, but rarely do I ever see whole outfits I would actually WEAR (minus some Oscars gowns, of course!)  But when I saw the Celine 2020 show, I was AMAZED at how realistic the outfits were- and so French-girl chic. Simple, classic and so much denim- which really pleases me, the “wears jeans every single day” kind of gal.  Also, I guess flare/ bell bottom jeans are going to be back in this spring, according to Celine?

Of course, very few of us can actually afford REAL Celine, so I gathered up a wardrobe of affordable styles that capture this look- floral dresses, denim, white peasant blouses, faux fur, all black, classic blazers and boucle jackets, slouchy boots and crisp sneakers.

I wasn’t kidding when I said that I had another Little Women post in me.  This time, about the fashion. The costume design in this movie by Jaqueline Durran is GENIUS. It’s period accurate, but somehow a little modern too (two great article on her approach to this film in Vogue and The New Yorker).  So I thought it would be fun to do a wardrobe roundup of what I think the March sisters would wear in modern day today!

Jo’s got a little masculine edge to her look, reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn in a way. She tends to favorite deep reds, ochres and earth tones and is not big on florals.

Amy would be the fashionista of today- designer flourishes and uber-feminine details. She wore tons of light blue in the movie, and so I stuck to that palette plus a nice mix of whites.

Meg is sort of the buttoned up but feminine gal- I picture her shopping a lot at J.Crew or Ann Taylor. She loves pretty things, but is more modest in her daily dressing. The costume designer said green and violet were her “colors” for the film, so I also stuck with that here.

Oh poor Beth. What do you dress a sweet, dying girl in? Comfy stuff, that’s what.  Her innocence screams out for blush tones and sweet details.
