Not a whole lot in the middle. And if I’m being honest, my two favorite things I spent money on were trips- to London and New York City (with Henry alone), and with that knowledge I am heading into 2025 focusing more on experiences than things (we are already booked to take the kids to the Domincan Republic and Disney World!)

But here are some things I found to be worthy purchases (or things I found myself buying multiples of which is the sign for me that it’s good!)

  1. By FAR the best thing I did in my kitchen renovation was go with this La Cornue induction range. I LOVE THIS THING. It has been so reliable, so easy to use and clean to clean up and bakes perfectly. It’s also freaking gorgeous to boot! 10/10 stars.
  2. The very out of character decision to throw caution to the wind and go see Taylor in London was THE best money I spent. More of this in 2025.
  3. I got new glasses and I love them. This is the pair I reach for every morning.
  4. To be fair, I did not BUY the Droplette, it was sent to me, but I have bought refill capsules (growth factors, glycolic and collagen) for this because I felt like it actually helped my skin. My derm said the science behind it is legit. On sale today for $99! Great gift!
  5. The best product I have found for my hair. Lightweight, smoothing, protecting. Bought thrice.
  6. My Athena bracelet. I wear it every day.
  7. The Homecourt Cece candle. Really great scent (sort of Santal-ish) and packaging. Makes a great gift too.
  8. I bought this Celine bag second hand and I’m SO glad I saved almost half the retail price as it came with only a couple minor scratches and I scratched it all up within a week anyways (I’m not precious with my things, I actually use them)! It’s a great size and shape for traveling (phone, sunglasses, lipgloss and a small wallet).
  9. I just got the Flamingo Estate book and I LOVE IT. I’m not even done yet and it’s made the list. The interviews are fascinating and it’s very inspiring! Giving this as a gift this year to friends.
  10. I bought this other version of my favorite eye palette this year and love it just as much as the original! It’s on sale today for $20!
  11. This cardigan/jacket from Tuckernuck. I have in ivory and then bought the black. Reminds me of a much pricier one, and I actually think it looks better on.
  12. My new favorite mascara, discovered this year! Makes lashes SO bold and curled yet not clumpy. And it’s clean. Sephora is 20% off today!
  13. Believe it or not I did not have a big boat and tote until I got Beans (another fave purchase of 2024). I now bring this to work everyday with my purse in it, whatever dog supplies I need and lots of other stuff.
  14. This is so silly, but I fell in love with this surface cleaner after they sent it to me to try (I ordered a bunch for the house). It smells SO good and makes me happy when I use it (yes, happy while cleaning!)
  15. This sweater was a great find- high neck, cozy yarn, great cut. I got so many compliments when I first wore it I looked into another color. I also LOVE this cardigan I bought from them too!
  16. These sneakers– wore to death. both with jeans and leggings.
  17. My favorite vase. Perfect for one bunch of flowers- adds a cool vibe to the room to boot. Also a great gift.
  18. This little stool/ table I put next to my freestanding tub- it’s flat on one side so it sits right up close to the tub and is perfect for a glass of wine or bubble bath.

Gift Guides 2023: Investment Gifts https://elementsofstyleblog.com/gift-guides-2023-investment-gifts/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/gift-guides-2023-investment-gifts/#comments Mon, 04 Dec 2023 20:40:10 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=52938 Here are some of my picks for investment gifts – from pretty damn expensive to on sale and a decent price! Not all items are clickable so look for links below in my notes:

  • This Tory Burch bag looks SO expensive and has a crossbody strap as well as being both black and beige so it goes with literally anything. One of the girls in my office has the smaller version and LOVES it.
  • Prada heels are actually comfy and there is nothing I wear more than a good animal print ponyhair shoe!
  • I bought this clutch and use it NON STOP for going out. Fits your phone, some cards and lipgloss and even your keys.
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Peloton Tread. I use in 3x a week and do runs, hikes (my fave), strength classes and stretching. Best treadmill ever.
  • Pieces from my M. Flynn collab – my Athena bracelet I wear every day, as well as my green tourmaline and diamond band and most often, my best-selling Heirloom studs. I designed these specifically to be everyday luxury pieces you never take off.
  • Fancy wine glasses – you can buy a couple at time for special occasions until you have a whole set. It’s so nice to have real crystal that isn’t dated looking to entertain with.
  • I am straight up obsession with my La Cornue induction range. Like, I was worried it would be hard to use, and it is the easiest oven and range ever. Everything cooks so evenly and quickly- BEST DECISION (you’ll see again on my best buys of 2023).
  • Nice dishware – another thing you can tell people to get you when you want to invest in special pieces for entertaining. These are stunning.
  • Veronica Beard blazer – I have one as old as 9 years I still wear! Expensive but WELL worth the money. Buy once, buy well.
  • I have this wallet (it’s indestructible- has lasted 5 years and counting), but I love the horsebit detail on this Gucci one too!
  • Art – buying original art is a GREAT gift that will last a lifetime! This piece is from Design Supply.
  • Golden Goose sneakers – I was a naysayer for YEARS! I thought these were ridiculous (and they are) but I do wear mine constantly. I am loving this pair with the leopard star!
  • A great statement vase – I’ve been eyeing this one for a year. I want to buy it for when we photograph my house.
  • Real leather pants – there are a lot of good fauxs out there, but NOTHING replaces my beloved leather leggings. Cost per wear is SO low. And these fit amazing and are on sale!
  • A great lamp – I’ve had this Bunny Williams lamp in two homes, several different rooms and will never part with it. It’s SO good and adds that unexpected modern flair to a traditional space. We use it a lot in our work.
  • I wear gold coin style necklaces a lot – and I’d love to invest in a Foundrae piece (round // heart) with my kids initials on it. This one is an easier price point.
  • La Ligne striped sweater – well made, perfect cut. A classic.
  • Free weights – nothing has changed my body composition more than weight training.
  • This faux leather jacket is one of my most worn items every winter and it’s on sale now!

‘Tis the Season with Bombas! https://elementsofstyleblog.com/tis-the-season-with-bombas/ Thu, 23 Nov 2023 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=52576

I saw a meme the other day that made fun of how it feels like torture when your socks slip down in your shoes – you know the feeling, right?! Well, I personally hate it, and have taken it upon myself to upgrade all my socks this year to Bombas. I find myself digging through my sock drawer in search of my Bombas every single time I get dressed. I’ve tried so many, and none measure up to them. So now I’m replacing them all with Bombas socks.

For running, hiking, wearing with casual sneakers or boots or booties, there is a pair for every style of shoe.

My favorites are the running socks, the no show socks that have a rubber grip on the back of the heel so they don’t slip down, and this taller version for boots that stay UP.

Andrew likes the merino calf socks for under pants and the wool blend performance socks for working out.

I’ve even gone and gotten my kids a bunch of pairs. Henry only wears tall socks pulled up to his knees and they MUST have stripes, so this style is perfect for him. And the toddler socks have incredibly sticky gripping dots on the bottoms so Emma doesn’t slip when she’s doing her dance routines to Frozen.

And as a bonus, Bombas donates a pair of socks to someone experiencing homelessness for every pair purchased. Shelters always say socks are one of their top needs, so this makes a big impact. Shop the upcoming sale on Nov 24 – Nov 27 or use my code ELEMENTS for 20% off for new customers. And be sure to snag a few pairs for gifts, as not everyone thinks to buy themselves nice socks :)

For kids, always remember they love things like band aids, mini flashlights, funky pens… sometimes it’s the day to day stuff they get the most out of! Planning for An Active Summer with Backcountry https://elementsofstyleblog.com/planning-for-an-active-summer-with-backcountry/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/planning-for-an-active-summer-with-backcountry/#comments Wed, 22 Jun 2022 14:06:14 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=41330 This summer I really want to get my kids outside more and take more day trips exploring nature. We tried taking the kids hiking the other weekend and Emma, being only 24 months, is NOT the biggest fan- but Henry LOVES it. So it might be a case of “quality time” with one parent on the trail! So when I was approached by Backcountry to do a partnership I thought it would be a great time to try out some new gear (and stock up on some faves for myself). I mean, look at that toothless smile!

After trying to use “fashion” backpacks for our  little day trips I figured out what I needed was a REAL backpack. I love this Patagonia one! The perfect amount of pockets and a stretchy zip cord to strap on a wet towel or discarded kid jackets!

I was also so intrigued to try these On sneakers after seeing them on so many runners! I really like them- they are really lightweight and cushioned but you can really feel the road, and were comfy from the first wear- not a single sore spot or blister!

I’m always on Henry to wear a hat- not only to protect from the sun but also any ticks in the woods from getting in his hair! He looks l;ike a straight up teen in this one.

Also, this set from Beyond Yoga is my favorite for ALL workouts- from running to weights, yoga and biking. It’s so soft, the perfect level of compression/support without being suffocating and comes in a bunch of colors! Also the ride of the leggings slight crop of the top make it so it’s not like, FULL ab exposure- just a hint :)

Here are some other faves from Backcountry for myself  and the kids- I find the most important thing when doing outdoor activities with kids are waterproof and comfy footwear, backpacks so they can learn to carry their own stuff and hats for sun protection and glare.  And I have found a new favorite swimwear brand thanks to Backcountry- Maaji– this bikini below is PERFECTION- it reverses to a cute floral print too so it’s like two  suits in one! I ordered a second suit from them too and love it just as much!

My Health, Workout & Beauty Routines https://elementsofstyleblog.com/my-health-workout-beauty-routines/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/my-health-workout-beauty-routines/#comments Mon, 13 Sep 2021 20:05:31 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=40622

This weekend when I did my Instagram AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) I got a lot of questions about my health and workout routines (and what kind of products and procedures I use/do on my face as well!) As you know, I tend to be mostly an open book so I’m happy to share my daily routine, with the caveat that I know these kinds of things can be triggering for those with body images issues- hell, I still have body image issues. Lots of them.  As someone who was diagnosed as having body dysmorphia, I certainly do NOT see myself the way other may see me. I’m no longer struggling with an eating disorder and I work hard trying to maintain a healthy mindset, but I know how hard it can be when you are really feeling down about yourself. So please don’t take this as anything but answering some of your questions and sharing my personal favorites.  My entire family is naturally thin and tall, and I was lucky to inherit pretty decent (albeit huge and cavity riddled) teeth, hair and eyebrows from my mother, so I do acknowledge that as well (although the unibrow in middle school was a hard road to travel, let me tell you ;) )

Also, I find that all of this- beauty rituals, working out and eating well all are a part of self care and that is important in maintaining some semblance of mental health, especially now.  I am very lucky to have a nanny who works until 6pm and a husband who is happy to trade on and off with the kids so we each can work out and take time to do things that make us relaxed a little. I always end my workday with enough time to work out and spend time with my kids, and try every night to do a little something to relax- a mask and tea or wine and a bath. Big advocate over here of that kind of thing.

BEAUTY:

I do not have a crazy routine. I wash my face with a few different washes depending on how my skin is feeling (faves being Tammy Fender, Tata Harper and this Naturopathica one with the brush for winter when my skin is DRY).  I use a prescription retinol at night and have been liking this rich Neocutis face cream over it. I have yet to find an eye cream I’m obsessed with. So I have a few so-so ones now. Please share if you have a good one! Every night I use my LED mask– at first I thought it was a crock, now I’m thinking maybe there’s something to it (if I do it every night- takes 10 minutes, and makes Emma cry when I wear it and Henry think I’m an Avenger of some kind). It’s been a couple months- we’ll see. For masks, I am OBSESSED with this cheap Versed one.  Seriously gives you a lift and brightens! I also always feel better with a little faux tan, so if I use a couple drop of TanLuxe on my face and the classic standby St. Tropez mousse on my body (with the mitt!) I also will use my gua sha tool and this oil to massage my face every few days in the morning to wake it up and de-puff. Also feels great on sore jaw muscles! Speaking of sore muscles, this basic epsom salt with lavender can’t be beat for relaxation in the bath. And my newest find is this Miami Beach Bum cream- guys, I always get razor burn on my legs…. since I switched to using mens razors (they are SO much better than the ones marketed to ladies) and using this cream after- not ONE BUMP! Amazing. Even though I sort of smell like a pizza from the oregano oil. #worthit

OK, now I’ve mentioned before I do have some injectables now that I’m in my 40’s. I get Botox between my eyebrows and above my upper lip (I have a gummy smile and this keeps the top lip from flipping under) as well as in my jaw for TMJ (which has, as a side effect, slimmed my jawline significantly a la Bethenny Frankel’s before and after pics- LOL).  I also get filler in my cheeks to help with my Resting Bitchy Face lines around my mouth that make me look like I’m pissed all the time.  I also plan to get, what my doctor says is “baby Fraxel” in October as my dark spots are out of control now. She says I’m gonna LOVE it, and she knows her stuff. I’m very much on the side of doing whatever makes you feel best- no shame, no guilt. And heavily advocate for going to an actual doctor for anything injected, not a med spa/ beautician. You do NOT want injectables done in the hands of anyone not properly trained!

NUTRITION:

After 7 years of IVF hormones and pregnancies, my body is finally settling back into a “normal” balanced state.  And it feels GREAT.  I also have found that working out has become therapy to me for my anxiety (especially these days with the world one big ol’ dumpster fire) and so I’ve been hustling more than normal and more active than I’ve been in years. So right now, I’m a little thinner than I’ve been in a while as I find the balance of working out and eating. But eating well has also helped me feel better about myself too, mentally and physically. In no way do I deny myself something I’m craving (in fact I housed a Burger King Double Cheeseburger on our drive to CT this past weekend), but during the week I try to eat pretty healthy. On the weekend, all bets are off for the most part.

I start my day with a smoothie chock full of supplements and good stuff to make sure I know I get SOME goodness in my system should the whole day’s eating plan go in the crapper. I blend a cup of frozen wild Maine blueberries, handful of spinach, scoop of Athletic Greens, scoop of collagen peptides, scoop of vanilla protein, 1/2 a banana, coconut milk and the juice of half a lemon. A yummy and fast way to power up. I get a nonfat latte on the way to work and then usually have a protein bar mid-morning. For lunch, I eat a Sweetgreen salad almost every day (spinach, arugula, chicken, broccoli, carrots, beets, shaved parm, lentils and balsamic vinaigrette) I’ve been so crazy busy lately with work, workouts and the kids that I usually don’t eat again until dinner.  Which could be order in pizza or Indian or Andrew will cook up some mix of protein, carb and veggie. Oh and wine. :) Again, #moderation.

WORKOUTS:

I am so excited to be building our basement gym right now with Brookes + Hill because I’ve been riding my Peloton under a literal raincloud of fiberglass insulation that will probably kill me. :) We’ve decided we will most likely never join a gym again, so this is a great investment. We got a Peloton during COVID (as did everyone else) and while I still am not a HUGE fan of spinning, I LOVE the thing. The classes are great- running (outdoor audio or treadmill ones), biking, strength, HIIT, yoga– I try them all! And the teachers are really motiving (shoutout to my faves -Emma, Alex and Selena) I’m @eringates1979, if you wanna follow along. I also LOVE Melissa Wood Health classes and Sculpt Society. I also found this girl, Rachel Gullotta,  on YouTube I like quite a bit too. I bit the bullet and got an Apple Watch so I can run without lugging my phone and love that it tracks my stats.  The best part of my new routine- how much STRONGER I am, and the endurance I have is shockingly improved! Actually seeing results is pretty cool.

I work out about 30-50 minutes a day 5-6 days a week. Everyday I do something different so a week may look like this:

SUNDAY: Off

MONDAY: Running outside- 3-4 miles or inside Peloton running class

TUESDAY: 30-40 minute Melissa Wood Health class

WEDNESDAY: 30 minute spinning class or Peloton treadmill running class/ 5-10 minute abs or arms class

THURSDAY: 30 minute HIIT or strength/ circuit workout with bands/sliders/weights

FRIDAY: 30 minute Yoga class

SATURDAY: Morning run outside (2-4) miles plus short abs/arms/butt class

As for workout clothes- here are some of my faves! Currently obsessed with the Alo Airlift leggings top left, but also was “Instagram Ad Influenced” into these Landr leggings that are pretty awesome too (thick, so better for fall).

I hope that answered a lot of your questions! If you have faves- clothes, creams, classes– drop them in comments so we can all try!

Baby Emma Items I’m Loving https://elementsofstyleblog.com/baby-emma-items-im-loving/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/baby-emma-items-im-loving/#comments Wed, 01 Jul 2020 13:52:21 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=39543 It took me about three weeks to do this one post, but at least I did one :). As I’ve mentioned, it hasn’t been the easiest transition for us bringing baby Emma into the mix– the pandemic really is making things a lot harder on all of us, and I’m struggling a bit with PPD/ PPA. Getting back to doing little things that make me feel normal helps a little, hence this post.  A bunch of you have asked for my baby favorites, so here are the things we are using a lot right now…

  1. We got rid of our much heavier Vista and got this new, pale pink UppaBaby Cruz and I really like it so far. We’ve been using it with the bassinet for neighborhood walks and she sometimes will sleep in the bassinet in the house too. For later on I bought the BabyZen Yoyo for travel/ in the car.
  2. This faux leather stroller caddy is chic and simple and holds my coffee and hand sanitizer and masks stylishly. Wipes down easily.
  3. I HATED those strapless pumping bras I used with Henry- this one is GENIUS– clips on to whatever nursing bra you’re already wearing!!! No need to get half naked to pump.
  4. Emma LOVES her Dock A Tot (fern cover/ plain dock). We also got the Snuggle Me Organic, which is super cozy,  but I feel like she’s outgrowing it already!
  5. Simple and sweet bows.
  6. Emma and Henry both wore these open bottom gowns in the hospital when first born- great for early days with a million diaper changes.
  7. I am a little obsessed. with this brand, Lou Lou and Company. The tops and pants are ADORABLE and so soft and the tie bottom gowns are great for newborns. They also have adorable bows, headbands and hats too. New prints released often!
  8. The Nuna Pipa Lite LX car seat is the lightest on the market- a bit over 5 lbs!!! Awesome for lugging her into the doctor and such. I also like the little leather accents. Base MUST be used with this one, so not good for city living if you need one that straps into a cab or Uber with no base.
  9. Pretty sure everyone with a baby has the Shusher.
  10. A bunch of followers told me to get this Ollie swaddle and it IS awesome. I just ordered a second. So easy and really snug and inescapable!
  11. My other favorite bows. I already have too many.
  12. The best nursing bras ever.
  13. I loooooove this brand for Emma and Henry (who has sensitive skin)- smells amazing and super safe- lotion, wash and diaper cream.
  14. This carrier is stupid expensive, but makes me STUPID happy. Also, it’s very comfy to wear.
  15. Anything Pink Chicken, sign me up.
  16. I love this classic sweater– Henry has some that now are Emma’s!
  17. H&M makes the BEST onesies, hands down.
  18. My favorite little jammies– when I found out I was having a girl this was the first thing I bought.
  19. Cutest little diaper clutch– love the hot pink interior pockets.

Today’s scheduled post was a sponsored post with Nordstrom about spring holiday looks for kids. Since the world seems to have imploded since agreeing to this post, we thought it would be better to change the topic to something  a little more relevant.  Nordstrom is discounting TONS of stuff 25% off right now, especially kids toys/ activities and clothes. As we hunker down and wait for this illness to subside, we have kids to entertain, teach and keep busy. And since there are no “dress up” moments right now, they can stay nice and cozy too (Henry calls all his sweatpants “cozy pants” and is delighted to be wearing them every day)  I picked a bunch of great items that are on sale (everything from a great cardboard playhouse and science kits to Mini Boden and Patagonia stuff all discounted!)  I know this is a hard time for everyone, it is for us too, and I hope that everyone can find methods and approaches to the “new normal” that help the days pass quickly and with as few temper tantrums as possible.

Thought on Baby Number 2 (Amidst A Global Pandemic) https://elementsofstyleblog.com/thought-on-baby-number-2-amidst-a-global-pandemic/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/thought-on-baby-number-2-amidst-a-global-pandemic/#comments Mon, 16 Mar 2020 16:48:29 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=39289 This week I hit my third trimester and I am having feelings. ALL the feelings. Not only about this global health emergency (during which being pregnant is extra hard– lower immune system, scary trips to the doctor/ thoughts of going to the busy hospital, being in lockdown with a toddler for weeks and not being able to drink, etc…), but also about the fact that I’m about to completely change the life we have so comfortably settled into.  It’s been me, Andrew and Henry for almost four and a half years. I desperately wanted to give him a sibling, and now that it’s almost go-time, I’m struggling with some sadness over introducing a “stranger” into our cozy, little club. Is that crazy? I mean, I fought tooth and nail for this, cried over it many times and now I’m feeling worried about what it’s going to do to our nuclear family. I think this is natural, but I’d love to hear from you guys if you had similar worries before welcoming a second child? Henry has been talking to my bump and saying things like “Give your big brother a kick!” and that has been beyond adorable. He’s so excited about becoming a big brother, but I’ve also noticed him acting out more, which I think is the natural response to knowing big change is on the way. We all, as a family, need to brace for change, and embrace the change, and know that it is all amazing and magical and confusing and will take time to get used to. Picturing myself going back to bottlesand pumping though- now that is really a mindf*ck (pardon my language, but it IS).

Mix all these conflicting emotions up with the panic I feel about COVID-19 and all of us remaining healthy, and I’m feeling beyond worn out, tired and on edge. For now our nanny is still coming to the house (she’s extra cautious and not socializing beyond us and Henry) and Andrew and I are coming to my office alone for some of the day to work (I am so lucky to have this space 3 blocks form our house- a change of scenery really helps).  Should things worsen, and I suspect they will for a bit, we’ll probably just stay home and switch on and off with childcare.  Luckily both our businesses can be run virtually and we are both busy.

But to keep my mind busy I’m focusing on work projects, thinking up things for Henry to do during the day (virtual music classes and dance classes, baking, art projects, games, playing outside in the yard or nature walks), doing pre-natal yoga every day and STAYING OFF THE NEWS SITES.  I easily can spiral down a rabbit hole of internet news and it really ramps up my anxiety, so I’ve committed to only checking reputable sites once a day and then staying away. I also am taking on lots of organization projects at the house in preparation for baby and general cleansing of our space (both sanitation-wise and clutter-wise).  I’ll post about some of these projects if you’re interested in my approach. I plan to keep my posts pretty light and entertaining while we are all distancing ourselves as a means of distraction.

I’m also trying to get into the spirit of planning for this baby coming in 12 weeks- the nursery and getting the essentials in order. I have a lot of stuff from Henry that I can re-use, and some stuff I want to update/replace to get the newest safety features, etc. as well as some things I hated that I had and want new options for. Someone on IG said their baby shower was getting cancelled due to the quarantines and they wanted to know what my list of “essentials” were to help them create a registry. So I gathered up baby items today to share with you- either stuff I have, items you guys have recommended recently or things I have heard good things about.

  1. This carrier is STUPID expensive, but I must have it. I’ve heard its super comfy too. I also really loved my Baby Bjorn carrier- this mesh version looks awesome for warmer months.
  2. After having a regular glider for my first baby, I swore up and down that next time I’d get a glider-recliner. Way more comfy when baby falls asleep or middle of the night feedings/ naps. This is one we’ve used for many clients and they love it.
  3. OK, so we may rent the Snoo starting at 6 weeks to see if it works or if we need it (thanks for all your DM’s on IG about this) but I have heard great things about this Baby Bjorn bassinet.  I’m a big fan of their products in general, so we plan to get this to start.
  4. I hated my bottle warmer I had, so I plan to get this one– which also can serve as a mini steam sanitizer! We have little counter space in our small kitchen so I can’t do the big, honking contraptions that make formula bottles plus a separate sterilizer.
  5. We LOVED our Bumbo once Henry could sit up! The best! Get the tray too.
  6. OK, so I have the 2015 Nuna Pipa car seat and loved it. So safe and cozy. But it was pretty heavy. They came out with a new version that is barely above 5 lbs. So I’m selling mine to a second hand shop and getting the new version.
  7. My photographer Sarah gave me her hand me down mesh Baby Bjorn bouncer chair for Henry and he LOOOOOOVED it. I then gave it to Henry’s godparents to use with their baby who also loved it. So I’m getting a fresh one for this baby!
  8. Recovering from childbirth is NO JOKE.  My friend Caroline told me “whatever you do, don’t look. It’s like a Tim Burton bouncy house down there for a week or so after!”  She was hysterically (and disgustingly) right.  I love this kit– what a great gift to put in your hospital bag!
  9. We love this simple, classic sound machine. Not too many bells and whistles.
  10. YOU MUST HAVE A SNOT SUCKER. Obviosuly I’ll get a fresh one for this baby. And also will remember to check to make sure the filter is in it before use, as I didn’t check once with Henry and basically mainlined snot into my mouth.
  11. I was gifted a couple strollers from brands for Henry that I liked- A Uppa Baby Vista (a little too big for our needs/ too heavy to transport but a lovely stroller) and a Nuna Mixx (I loved this one for baby stage). Both are getting donated and I’m treating myself to a new one. I think I’m getting the newer Nuna Mixx. I love that the seat fully reclines so with an infant insert you don’t need a bassinet.  It’s big enough for all your stuff, but not insanely cumbersome- only downside is that they don’t make a ride on board for Henry. I found a generic one though, so that should work.  Otherwise I was looking at the Uppababy Cruz– which looks more compact and has a great ride on board. Thoughts??  We use this size stroller most at home- walking to the park, shops/coffee and such. We tend to use a travel stroller if packing up to go somewhere in the car.
  12. I plan on using this wipeable changing pad because I found myself constantly washing the changing pad covers of my basic one last go round.
  13.  We loved the Halo Sleepsack for Henry- he wore different versions of them until he was 3.
  14. I have a Dock-a-tot but want to get this cover and the toy bar! I also have heard great things about Snuggle Me Organic as an alternate to this.
  15. Many of you messaged me about the Ollie Swaddle! So I plan on getting one to try out too!
  16. I love Lewis’ printed swaddles and jammies- this is a cute hospital outfit to pack up!
  17. Pehr swaddles are adorable and such high quality- this pink leopard? Oh yes.
  18. The ride on board for the Yoyo stroller (see comments for 19)
  19. We had a few travel strollers, none of which we loved. I have heard great things about the Babyzen Yoyo. And I love that it has a ride on board and I can make it work with my carseat. I feel like this will last for a long time, from baby through toddler for that reason. Plus it fits in an overhead bin on a plane (when we can eventually fly again).
  20. We tried a lot of monitors and this one has been my total fave- getting a second camera for it and keeping it simple.
  21. The BEST diaper pail. End of story.
  22. I used a diaper clutch in my normal bags most often with Henry. This one from Mark & Graham is super chic!

Hope everyone is staying safe, keeping their distance and washing their hands!

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide https://elementsofstyleblog.com/valentines-day-gift-guide-3/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/valentines-day-gift-guide-3/#comments Fri, 24 Jan 2020 17:28:36 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=39073

I don’t really like Valentine’s Day and all the pressure it puts on people, but I do like Valentine’s Day  gifts :) So I pulled together some cute ideas for her, him and kids in case you too like to gift a little something to your loved ones.  Growing up the rule was the gifts had to be red, pink or have hearts on them so I stick to that tradition now too!

Fashion Friday: Back to School Fashion for Littles https://elementsofstyleblog.com/fashion-friday-back-to-school-fashion-for-littles/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/fashion-friday-back-to-school-fashion-for-littles/#comments Fri, 16 Aug 2019 16:27:50 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=38530 To continue on my “fall is coming” excitement, I decided to blog about kids clothes today for back to school! I know in the south this happens sooner than up north- so perhaps this is not as premature as I thought it might be!  Buying clothes for Henry is basically my 4th job, so I am pretty good at finding adorable styles that make him look like a tiny grown up. I know my time is running out until we enter the “all Under Armour all the time” phase, from what I’m told, so I delight in still being able to dress him. You won’t find me suggesting $200 Golden goose sneakers or Gucci tracksuits here though (I am honestly HORRIFIED by the prices of designer kids wear).  I find such amazing things at Old Navy, H&M and J.Crew Factory and when I want to go fancier- the quality of places like Boden, Tea Collection, Crewcuts and Maisonette is pretty awesome.
