I’ve been REALLY itching to edit, donate, clean, scrub and just GET MY SHIT TOGETHER. The summer always makes me really antsy to clean house and get organized- maybe it has something to do with the heat and humidity and the desire to have less things? As I prepare to spend some time doing this, I wanted to share the things I love for the purpose of keeping house- both things that bring me joy (this counter cleaner, this candle) to the nitty gritty like food storage containers and stain cleaner. I hope this feels helpful and inspirational to kick start your own “get my shit together” mission! All links (and some more goodies like a great steamer and iron) all HERE.

Fave Buys of 2024 https://elementsofstyleblog.com/fave-buys-of-2024/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/fave-buys-of-2024/#comments Thu, 12 Dec 2024 19:51:18 +0000 https://elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=55213 Looking back on 2024 my favorite buys were either really big or relatively small. Not a whole lot in the middle. And if I’m being honest, my two favorite things I spent money on were trips- to London and New York City (with Henry alone), and with that knowledge I am heading into 2025 focusing more on experiences than things (we are already booked to take the kids to the Domincan Republic and Disney World!)

But here are some things I found to be worthy purchases (or things I found myself buying multiples of which is the sign for me that it’s good!)

  1. By FAR the best thing I did in my kitchen renovation was go with this La Cornue induction range. I LOVE THIS THING. It has been so reliable, so easy to use and clean to clean up and bakes perfectly. It’s also freaking gorgeous to boot! 10/10 stars.
  2. The very out of character decision to throw caution to the wind and go see Taylor in London was THE best money I spent. More of this in 2025.
  3. I got new glasses and I love them. This is the pair I reach for every morning.
  4. To be fair, I did not BUY the Droplette, it was sent to me, but I have bought refill capsules (growth factors, glycolic and collagen) for this because I felt like it actually helped my skin. My derm said the science behind it is legit. On sale today for $99! Great gift!
  5. The best product I have found for my hair. Lightweight, smoothing, protecting. Bought thrice.
  6. My Athena bracelet. I wear it every day.
  7. The Homecourt Cece candle. Really great scent (sort of Santal-ish) and packaging. Makes a great gift too.
  8. I bought this Celine bag second hand and I’m SO glad I saved almost half the retail price as it came with only a couple minor scratches and I scratched it all up within a week anyways (I’m not precious with my things, I actually use them)! It’s a great size and shape for traveling (phone, sunglasses, lipgloss and a small wallet).
  9. I just got the Flamingo Estate book and I LOVE IT. I’m not even done yet and it’s made the list. The interviews are fascinating and it’s very inspiring! Giving this as a gift this year to friends.
  10. I bought this other version of my favorite eye palette this year and love it just as much as the original! It’s on sale today for $20!
  11. This cardigan/jacket from Tuckernuck. I have in ivory and then bought the black. Reminds me of a much pricier one, and I actually think it looks better on.
  12. My new favorite mascara, discovered this year! Makes lashes SO bold and curled yet not clumpy. And it’s clean. Sephora is 20% off today!
  13. Believe it or not I did not have a big boat and tote until I got Beans (another fave purchase of 2024). I now bring this to work everyday with my purse in it, whatever dog supplies I need and lots of other stuff.
  14. This is so silly, but I fell in love with this surface cleaner after they sent it to me to try (I ordered a bunch for the house). It smells SO good and makes me happy when I use it (yes, happy while cleaning!)
  15. This sweater was a great find- high neck, cozy yarn, great cut. I got so many compliments when I first wore it I looked into another color. I also LOVE this cardigan I bought from them too!
  16. These sneakers– wore to death. both with jeans and leggings.
  17. My favorite vase. Perfect for one bunch of flowers- adds a cool vibe to the room to boot. Also a great gift.
  18. This little stool/ table I put next to my freestanding tub- it’s flat on one side so it sits right up close to the tub and is perfect for a glass of wine or bubble bath.

Best Holiday Decor & Faux Greenery https://elementsofstyleblog.com/holiday-decor-faves-2024/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/holiday-decor-faves-2024/#comments Mon, 25 Nov 2024 20:37:43 +0000 https://elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=55179
Afloral’s high quality Norfolk garland above.

One things I’ve done over the years is put my holiday decor in two camps – faux and fresh. I’ve invested in really good faux garland for the stairs, the family room mantle and interior wreaths, as the shedding of dried garland in high traffic areas makes me crazy. We also have a faux tree in the family room where the kids and pup play and most ornaments are non breakable as well. We have a decent faux tree, but next year I plan to invest in a really good one for long term (Frontgate and Balsam Hill have the best ones…). In our formal living room I do real garland and a real tree – our ceilings are nearly 11 feet in that room and it allows Andrew to get his dream super tall tree.

As we head into December, I have rounded up some of the best faux greenery and other fun accents for the home for the holidays to help you narrow it down (nothing sadder than a really bad fake, in my opinion!). This year I’m going for a magical British countryside kind of look… :)

The start to our decor using Terrain’s pinecone garlands and bell garlands. More to come!

Gift Guides 2024: For Home https://elementsofstyleblog.com/gift-guides-2024-for-home/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/gift-guides-2024-for-home/#comments Mon, 18 Nov 2024 20:06:09 +0000 https://elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=55159 This category is hard because I could go on FOREVER. Of course I could suggest my own books, and go buck wild with crazy expensive stuff, but I don’t think that’s what most of you are here for (if it is, there will be an investment buys gift guide coming up!)… So, here are some great finds, most under $250, for the home. I always love a good pairing, like cocktail glasses with a fun mixer, mugs with some nice coffee or tea, or monogrammed napkins and napkin rings – all of those always a winner and great for a housewarming gift as well if you are traveling for the holidays and want to bring something.

Also, we have a couple great things left in our holiday shop – original art, the perfect vases for everyday and cute napkins (we are trying to get more holiday candles – yet again they went FAST).

Finally, if you are in town this Thursday and curious about working with Framebridge (my favorite easy to use framing source) they are opening a store in Wellesley and I am hosting a little cocktail reception from 5:30-8! They have GREAT options for gifts of framed pictures – always a hit with the grandparents!

This little ornament is such a good gift for under $30!

Gates & Co. Spring Collection – Part 2 – is Here! https://elementsofstyleblog.com/gates-co-spring-collection-part-2-is-here/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 15:59:00 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=54723 Now that Easter is behind us, we’re diving head first into spring, and even thinking about Mother’s Day gifts (you’ve got 5 weeks to shop, people!). Keeping that in mind, we’ve got a little something for everyone with this launch…

New Art & Decor

Erin Clark – inspired by warmer weather and a color palette pulled right from the tennis court… group 2-3 of these original paintings together in simple white frames in a powder bath or playroom!

Laura McCarty – we are such fans of Laura’s original abstracted landscapes, framed in beaded antique gold frames.

Statuette – we’re over the moon for these new mounted intaglios on Linen, Green (Farrow & Ball Treron) and Blue (Farrow & Ball De Nimes) – so fresh, and they mix and match perfectly with previous collections.

Tabletop & Accessories

Marbled Frames – we worked with The Flynn Collection again to bring a few more of these marbled paper frames to you. Each frame is meticulously wrapped by hand. Pop a precious family photo in one of the frames and give to a special mom in your life (or yourself!).

In addition to our wavy embroidered linen napkins in neutral and olive, we’ve added this charming Chartreuse Block Print napkin set to the mix. Gift these with a nice bottle of wine and a set of acrylic wine glasses, and you’re good to go!

Paper Goods

Notepads – We are SO excited to share these new notepads and wrapping paper with you. I personally believe that a cute notepad for your shopping list, to dos, or doodles will make your life better. We worked with Emily Quigley to comb the archives and find vintage illustrations of two of my favorite springtime florals – Lily of the Valley and ferns, and create these gorgeous notepads. Just having one on my desk to look at makes me feel better already :)

Gift Wrap – you all know how much I love a pretty wrapping paper situation! There are so many beautiful options out there online and at places like Paper Source, but I wanted to do something unique and totally custom for you all. Again, we worked with Emily Quigley Ink to create this organic-feeling ikat in “Pool” and “Sand”, and I love how they turned out! Classic, season-less, pretty but not too cutesy… just right.

Restock!

Psst… we still have a few of these little horn bowls left, and have restocked the horn trays and Verdure vases in all three sizes!

There’s only one Tessa Brown framed original landscape left – get it here!

SHOP ALL NEW ARRIVALS HERE!

FINALLY… The Barn drop you’ve all been waiting for!

I am selling Henry’s trundle bed and Emma’s crib. Sad to part with them, but their new beds are arriving this week and I’m so excited to show you their updated rooms! In addition to the beds, we have several other new items to shop – make sure you check it out!

How To Make a Bed Three Ways https://elementsofstyleblog.com/three-ways-to-make-a-bed-erin-gates-design-elements-style/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/three-ways-to-make-a-bed-erin-gates-design-elements-style/#comments Thu, 21 Mar 2024 00:14:45 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=54629 Following the launch of my new Kassatex collection earlier this week, I asked on Instagram if there’s anything you want to know about styling/designing from me, and so many of you asked about the ‘right way’ to make a bed. When properly arranged, a good duvet and sham set is a sure way to completely transform your room to look and feel like a decadent hotel suite. Here are three combos I swear by:

Bed #1

Bed number one is my favorite of the bunch because it looks SO luxurious and it’s super easy to achieve. For this combo, I used the greek key duvet, 2 king shams with greek key border, 3 euro shams with greek key border and 1 of my lumbar pillows to pull it all together.

Bed #2

Bed number two is great for New England winters because it’s super layered and cozy. For this combo, I used the Iris Quilt on the solid side (it’s reversible!) AND the greek key duvet, 2 quilted king shams, 2 king shams with greek key border and the same floral lumbar pillow. Fold the duvet over once or twice for a super fluffy look.

Bed #3

Perfect for summer months, bed number three is so easy. All you need is the Iris Quilt, (I flipped it over to the block print side), 2 quilted king shams, 2 king shams with greek key border and 2 of the 20×20 throw pillows. I love this option for when it gets a bit warmer. Add my all time favorite Weston Throw Blanket just in case you get chilly.

I’ll be posting more insider tips in the next few weeks, so make sure to follow along on my Instagram if you aren’t already!

Gates & Co. Spring Collection is Now Available! https://elementsofstyleblog.com/gates-co-2024-spring-collection/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/gates-co-2024-spring-collection/#comments Mon, 18 Mar 2024 15:05:29 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=54457

Easter and Passover are only a few short weeks away, so we wanted to launch Part 1 of our spring collection a bit early, to make sure you have all you need for your holiday gathering tabletops.

We’re so excited to launch these wavy embroidered linen napkins in neutral and olive. They work so well with our horn napkin rings, Espalier Block Print Tablecloth, and Kavya Rose tablecloth. Can’t go wrong mixing and matching with these!

This large, scalloped rattan tray is SO GOOD. As you know, I love woven baskets and trays. This one is so pretty and has added utility, with deep sides and super sturdy handles. It’s perfect for schlepping around household items or corralling miscellaneous items on your ottoman or coffee table.

I’m always picking up little bowls and trays to stash jewelry, decorative soaps, matchboxes, etc., so I added these little horn bowls (featured here with the small (20mm) Bente hoops, medium (30mm) Bente hoops, and Abuja bracelet) and trays to the collection (shown here with our Verdure Vase #1).

We’re also super excited to share that Tessa Brown sourced vintage frames for a few of her original landscapes for us, and they are now available!

Part 2 of our spring launch will include more exclusive marbled paper picture frames, intaglios in fresh colors, new artwork, a restock of our favorite Verdure vases, and more!

Baskets! Baskets! Baskets! https://elementsofstyleblog.com/baskets-baskets-baskets/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/baskets-baskets-baskets/#comments Tue, 27 Feb 2024 16:32:17 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=54179 Since you loved my organization faves blog post last month, and because it’s nearly 60 degrees here today, I’m getting a jump start on spring cleaning and sharing a round up of my favorite baskets!

Just like a good workout set gets me in the gym, some cute baskets are all I need to get all the rooms in my house in order.

This lidded, larger one is perfect for keeping in the corner of your room to hide a mess until you can get to it. These are just the right size for the mudroom (see my mudroom update from January here). I have four of them in mine so everybody in the family has their own to hide their shoes.

All items are clickable except for this zara one and this zara one which are TOO cute for a playroom!

Holiday Decor from Target! https://elementsofstyleblog.com/holiday-decor-from-target/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/holiday-decor-from-target/#comments Tue, 21 Nov 2023 15:46:08 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=52480
Medium tree // small tree // wreath // pinecone ornaments // candle // mercury ornaments // wood ornaments // santa letter set

Once Thanksgiving is over, it’s high time for holiday decorating and entertaining and I can promise you there is no need to break the bank on chic accents. I’ve partnered with Target today to share some of my most favorite finds from their collections (a personal preference for all things Studio McGee and Hearth & Hand, obviously).

These adorable faux trees can go anywhere and can even replace a bouquet of flowers on a console or table. Sprinkle in some vintage style ornaments and light a fir scented candle and you are off to a great start.

I love hanging wreaths on my mirrors (or large interior windows) with adhesive hooks, and this one is so simple and has a pretty velvet bow.

This cute letter to Santa set is a great activity for little kids, Henry quickly got in on the action with this one!

Below are more awesome finds for holiday entertaining from Target. I mean, who doesn’t LOVE a good Target run? Thanks to Target for sponsoring this post (and giving me a head start on my decorating!)

My Favorite Dinnerware & China https://elementsofstyleblog.com/my-favorite-dinnerware-china/ https://elementsofstyleblog.com/my-favorite-dinnerware-china/#comments Tue, 31 Oct 2023 16:18:28 +0000 https://www.elementsofstyleblog.com/?p=52304

As the holiday season approaches for many of us, I thought it would be apt to round up some of my all time favorite dinnerware and formal china. From everyday affordable classics to proper formal place settings, these are some of my all time faves. I personally own the blue version of the Juliska Country Estate, the Carolyn Roheme Lily of the Valley, some accent pieces in the cabbage (but have been coveting the Bernadaud Constance for some time now). I need new everyday dinnerware so I’ve been looking around for sets that are classic and simple and have decently sized cereal bowls and mugs. Let me know if you have a personal favorite! All images are linked except the purple set, which can be found on Mrs. Alice (an amazing site for all things tabletop).
